Donegal County Council as the Local Authority for County Donegal provides an extensive range of services in the County. These services range from Planning Control, to the provision of Social Housing, to the upkeep and improvement of Roads, to Pollution Control, to Fire Services, Library Services and Sanitary Services.   In addition the county has 4 Town Councils areas – Bundoran, Ballyshannon, Letterkenny and Buncrana .

Since 2000, County Development Boards (CDBs) have been set up in every County/City in recognition of the need to integrate and co-ordinate the various elements of development and of service delivery at local level.   Donegal County Development Board assists in consolidating and, where possible, growing the economic welfare of County Donegal in an effort to make the County a better place in which to live, work, relax and invest.
